Deborah Ann Nevarez, 50, of Whittier passed away at home on May 9, 2022. She was born in Encino, CA and raised in Whittier. Debbie graduated from St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Whittier, St. Paul High School in Santa Fe Springs, and Whittier College. After beginning her professional career as a librarian, Debbie transitioned to elementary school teaching and eventually school counseling.
She spent 16 years working for the Santa Ana Unified School district and was devoted to helping children overcome academic and personal obstacles. Debbie wanted all students to be successful in life. She often gave her own money and time to help them with their basic needs and more. Debbie made a positive impact on her students year after year.
When not working, Debbie was devoted to her golden retrievers. Over many years, Debbie cared for and loved her goldens, Sophie, Max, Ellie, Elliot, and Harry. Debbie was a deep thinker and an avid reader. She loved to contemplate life and worked to become closer to God on a daily basis.
Debbie is survived by her mother and father, Mary and Al Nevarez, her sister, Diane Nevarez, her brothers, David (Tricia) Nevarez and Daniel (Carla) Nevarez, and her beloved nephews, Decker Nevarez and Nelson Nevarez.
A loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Debbie will be dearly missed. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon her. May Deborah Ann Nevarez rest in peace.
